The MiniApps Pack, version 1.1, is a collection of mini-applications, small in
size (6K each) but big on features and usefulness.
A MiniApp usually performs a single task, somewhat of a pre-configured macro
wrapped in an application shell. There is no complex user interface or settings
to configure. It knows what to do, how to do it, even when to quit.
MiniApps require System 7 and generally reside in the Apple Menu Items folder,
where they can be reached easily. Although some may be better located in the
Startup Items folder.
Contrary to systems extensions, which often provide similar functionality,
MiniApps do not have permanent memory requirements and are not subject to
annoying conflicts.
The MiniApps Pack v1.1 is free. Commercial distribution is restricted.
EmptyTrash:
-----------
System 7's trash doesn't empty automatically. There are alternatives available
to remedy this shortcoming; some require you to install a system extension, or
drag items to a special application.
Avoid the possible extension conflicts and memory management issues. Make it
easy on yourself... Place "EmptyTrash" in your "Startup Items" folder. The
trash will automatically empty itself each time your Mac is restarted.
(NOTE: Holding the shift key down at boot time will prevent startup
applications, such as EmptyTrash, from loading.)
FinderToFront:
--------------
System 7's Startup Items folder allows you to launch applications or open
documents whenever your Mac starts up. Items enclosed in the Startup Items
folder are launched in alphabetical order, the last one becoming the
front most.
This is a great feature, but often one would want the Finder to be front most as
soon as all startup items are launched.
No sweat! Copy "~FinderToFront" to the Startup Items folder. The Finder will
automatically come to front after all startup items have loaded.
(NOTE: The ~ placed at the beginning of FinderToFront ensures it is always
launched last.)
QuitAllApps:
------------
"I wish I could quit all opened applications at once!"
No problems! Place "QuitAllApps" into your Apple Menu Items folder; quitting
all opened applications will become a one step selection from the Apple Menu.
(NOTE: Applications which do not support high-level events may not quit as
expected.)
QuitFinder:
-----------
Want to save yourself 300K or more by quitting the Finder when you don't need
it?
Easy! Copy "QuitFinder" to your Apple Menu Items folder. To "quit" the Finder
simply select "QuitFinder" from the Apple Menu.
(NOTE: Quitting all applications and desk accessories automatically re-launches
the Finder.)
Restart:
--------
Have you ever wanted to Restart your Mac without having to switch back to the
finder?
Put "Restart" into your Apple Menu Items folder and you won't have to!
Just select "Restart" from the Apple Menu.
ShutDown:
---------
In a hurry? Need to shut down your Mac fast?
Place "ShutDown" in your Apple Menu Items folder to make it available from the
Apple Menu.
Sleep:
------
No need to buy a memory-hungry system extension to put your PowerBook to sleep
or invoke your favorite screen saver.
Copy "Sleep" to your Apple Menu Items folder and "Sleep" will become available
to all your favorite applications via the Apple Menu.
(NOTE: Sleep will only work with screen savers which make use of the "Sleep"
menu option located under the "Special" menu in the Finder.)
VolumeUp & VolumeDown:
----------------------
Ever wanted to raise or lower your Macintosh speaker's volume one notch without
having to go through opening the sound control panel, etc.
Simply place "VolumeUp" and "VolumeDown" in your Apple Menu Items folder; one
click is all it'll take to control your speaker's volume.
Enjoy!
